ROOTS ROCKERS THE MATINÉE ARE SET TO DELIVER “DANCING ON YOUR GRAVE” FEBRUARY 17TH

Vancouver roots rockers The Matinée are gearing up for the release of their highly anticipated sophomore album “Dancing On Your Grave”, available everywhere February 17th via Light Organ Records and currently available for pre-order HERE. Heralded as one of the ‘most anticipated releases of 2017’ and recorded over two lengthy sessions at Vancouver’s 604 Studios, “Dancing On Your Grave” was produced by Jamie Candiloro (Ryan Adams, REM, Courtney Love), and is a triumphant culmination of spontaneous creativity, mindful and often therapeutic lyricism and a heart swelling collision of hook-infused rock and earthy roots influenced songs – all written, jammed and recorded on the spot in studio.

“Dancing On Your Grave” showcases the dynamic musicianship of The Matinée and explores the growth and transformation of the band as a whole. The recording of the album took place in the wake of a series of personal upheavals within the group: marriages, children, and an emotional breakup saw each member take time away from the band to gain some much needed perspective. “We were all going through big life changes,” Matt Layzell recalls. “After a difficult split, I found myself disappearing on solo road trips into the wild with my dog, trying to clear my head.”

Ultimately, “Dancing On Your Grave” is the perfect distillation of the chemistry between these longtime friends and collaborators. Having spent over a decade together, they’ve emerged with a sound that’s tighter and more vibrant than ever. The albums 11 tracks come from over 40 songs that the band brewed up during the recording process. Lead single and title track, “Dancing On Your Grave” showcases smoldering guitar riffs, impassioned vocals and magnetic storytelling. The song premiered late last fall and delivered a visually and technically stunning video, replete with Google Tilt Brush virtual reality technology and tilt brush artist Hannah MacAuley’s impressive creativity and ability to infuse the video with vivid colours – watch the video HERE.

“Dancing On Your Grave” is the follow-up to 2013’s beloved LP “We Swore We’d See The Sunrise” and the U.S. released 2015 EP “Broken Arrows”, which garnered the band a #1 hit for six weeks straight on CBC Radio 3. Often compared to such musical legends as Tom Petty, Wilco and the aforementioned Ryan Adams, The Matinée are no strangers to the hard work and dedication necessary to succeed and with a body of work this strong, expect to see the band front and centre on festival stages everywhere in 2017.

The Matinée is; Matt Layzell (vocalist), Pete Lemon (drummer), Matt Rose (guitar) and Geoff Petrie (guitar).
