When top independent film producer Avi Federgreen decided to expand his activities to promote new Canadian musicians, he wasn’t looking for the obvious, flavour of the month, pop artist. Instead, Federgreen is attracted to artistic songwriters, creative performers with material of substance.

So it’s with great personal pride that he presents the majority of his Indie Can Records roster (only Sudbury’s Murder Murder are missing) during a Music Express-sponsored , Canadian Music Week showcase Thursday at Cherry Cola’s.

Artists being showcased include singer/actress Laura Tremblay, Emily Madronich, 2012 Rising Star winner at the Niagara Music Awards, Sudbury’s Jennifer Holub, who releases her debut “For The Haunting” release in May and Sioux Lookout Ontario’s Nick Sherman who generated inspiration for his Northern-based lyrics while tending his family’s trap lines and has released two previous records.

Adding to the showcase is veteran Moxy Fruvous/Great Big Sea performer Murray Foster, who recently directed his first major movie; The Cocksure Lads, folk singer Annie Sumi , top recording artist Carly Thomas and Rose Erin Stokes, another developing folk-rock artist.
