Nikki Yanofsky Releases New Song Nerve

Nikki Yanofsky Releases New Song Nerve Inspired By Songwriter Rod Temperton

Toronto, ON – March 20, 2020

Nikki Yanofsky releases her new song, Nerve, from her forthcoming album, Black Sheep, out later this year on eOne Music. Recorded at Planet Studios in Montreal and produced by Zachary Seman and Roger Kleinman (Joey Bada$$, ASAP Rocky), Nerve is Nikki’s attempt to capture the aesthetic of her late hero and collaborator, Rod Temperton (who wrote Thriller and Boogie Nights). Listen to Nerve here.

“When Rod passed away, I really wanted to honor him with a song, but that task was too daunting,” says Nikki. “What I knew I could pull off though, was a song that Rod would have approved of. A song with a funky feel that captured his vibe. That’s Nerve (also, the bridge spells out ‘Boogie’ because I always poked fun at Rod for using that word in more than a few songs of his).”

Prior to his passing, Rod wrote a song especially for Nikki – Bubbles – which also appears on Black Sheep and will be released later this spring.

“Music is a language the entire world speaks,” says Nikki. “It’s always there for you. It turns good times into memories and turns the hard times into something that people can connect through. We need to stay in right now, and Nerve is a feel-good song that you can put on and dance around your house to while we wait for the streets to open up again.”

This afternoon at 3:30 p.m. EST, Nikki will go live on Instagram as part of Global Citizen’s #TogetherAtHome series and perform songs from Black Sheep. Tune in here.

Billboard has called the songs from Black Sheep “charming” and “self-confident.” Watch the video for lead single Forget here.

Nikki will perform in select cities later this year, with dates to be announced soon.
