Snotty Nose Rez Kids Celebrate Indigenous Excellence
On New Single Something Else

Snotty Nose Rez Kids honour National Indigenous Peoples Day with new single and video, Something Else. Drawing from the uproar following exclusion of the Indigenous population in last year’s US Election polling results – labelled as “something else” – the duo turns the term on its head to reclaim identity through sharp bars, new cadences and fresh flows.
The song emboldens recognition and pride that goes beyond definition and border, while the video celebrates some of the Indigenous community’s top creatives, influencers and changemakers.

“The community was able to look on the bright side even though news media still fail to see and recognize us as human beings. No matter what label you throw at us, we know who we are and where we come from,” says Young D.

Yung Trybez adds, “Indigenous Peoples Day celebrates Indigenous excellence! So, we wanted to bring together a deadly group of social influencers making noise on the scene. From actors to dancers, activists, clothing designers, models, to storytellers, we brought everyone together to showcase what they do best. Director, Sterling Larose, got the vision and delivered a fire video that jumps between the video and behind the scenes, offers up our style of humour, and highlights the best of Indigenous excellence.”

The video blends over-the-top graphics and greenscreen with behind-the-scenes clips. Featured creatives include TikTok star James Jones (aka Notorious Cree), Miss Universe 2015 Ashley Callingbull, actor/director, Grace Dove, SNRK’s official DJ and a badass creative, DJ Kookum, Two-Spirit creative, designer and stylist, Scott Wabano, curator/dancer/model, Kendra Jessie, artist and environmental scientist Nikita Elysa,  Matriarch Movement Founder Shayla Stonechild, Section 35 clothing company Co-Founder,  Justin Jacob Louis, and influencer, Michelle Chub (aka Indigenous Baddie).

Often compared to Flatbush Zombies and Earthgang, SNRK have developed their own unique Indigenous Trap genre and have risen through industry ranks receiving multiple awards, and named among Complex’s, Ones to Watch in 2020. Formed in 2016, SNRK released back-to-back albums in 2017, their self-titled debut in Jan 2017 & The Average Savage in Sept 2017. The latter secured them Best Hip-Hop Artist at the Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMA), landed them on 2018’s Polaris Music Prize Short List, & a 2019 Juno Nomination for Best Indigenous Music Album. The group toured heavily in Canada in 2018 with appearances in NYC, Seattle and Darwin, Australia. They quickly gained notoriety for their energetic, inspiring and thought-provoking shows.

SNRK led 2019 with their third album, TRAPLINE, which received stellar reviews and press from Exclaim!, Noisey, Beatroute, Hip Hop Canada, CBCMusic, Complex, Hype Magazine, Okayplayer, & FADER. The duo embarked on a 60+ show tour in Canada, the US, Mexico, UK & Australia receiving a groundswell of support for their live show and scoring 9/9 on multiple Exclaim! show reviews. That same year, SNRK won Breakout Artist at the WCMA’s & the album was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, marking SNRK as one of only three artists to ever be shortlisted back-to-back years. They wrapped up 2019 with TRAPLINE listed on numerous Best Album of the Year lists. Exclaim! named TRAPLINE one of the 50 Best Albums of the 2010s, Top 10 Hip Hop Album of the Year, & Top 50 Songs of the 2010s for Boujee Natives.
