NEW MUSIC: MURDER MURDER

By Keith Sharp

album-cover

A new musical trend has formulated out of the Northern Ontario outpost Sudbury and it’s called “Bloodgrass”, a unique permutation of bluegrass and outlaw country and yes, the two albums; “Murder Murder Murder” and “From The Stillhouse” recorded by this six-member group both contain ballads about one central theme; Murder!
Featuring Jon Danyliw (vocals/guitar/mandolin), Sam Cassio (vocals/guitar/mandolin), Geoff McCausland (fiddle), Barry Miles (vocals/banjo/dobro), Kris Dickson (stand-up bass) and Steph Duchesne (percussion), Murder Murder, formed in 2013 have already performed two consecutive years at Sudbury’s Northern Lights Boreal Festival in 2014 and 2015 and won the 2015 CBC Searchlight Northern Ontario championships (and best audience pick) as well as being nominated for the NOMFM best songwriting competition.
Appearances in Toronto at both the 2015 Canadian Music Week and NXNE festivals have earned rave reviews and the band has already toured the East Coast on three separate occasions. Signed to Avi Federgreen’s Indiecan label, Murder Murder may not have the lyrical history of the Wild West to fall back on musically, so the band has created their own Northern Ontario mythology.
