“We Were Kings” – the next song to be released by Halifax duo Neon Dreams – is a heartfelt thank you to those that have helped lead singer Frank Kadillac get through his difficult teenage years. (Download/Stream: https://lnk.to/WeWereKingsPR)
“I want to be honest about who I am,” Frank says. “I was raised by a single mother who had me when she was only 17. We moved around a lot. I was sleeping in closets, couches and wherever we could stay until we got evicted, which made me the new kid in 10 different schools.”
When he was 13 years old, Frank and his family moved to Spryfield, Nova Scotia. It was devastating for Frank who was an outsider in a school that had a problem with racism. He was tormented daily. “I thought I was cursed and had no purpose until I met my band-mates. We created our own family and followed our dreams. Eventually things got better. This song is for them.”
Frank credits a week-long meditation retreat in Sedona, Arizona, for an increase of self-awareness. “I wanted to make a song that shows them I always have them in my heart. No matter how hard I work and lose track of time, nothing has ever changed about my feelings towards them.”
The song is accompanied by a video which was directed by Frank and his close friend Alex Gayoso. “We were driving through Utah and found this piece of land that was incredible. It had all the landscapes in one place. As a Coldplay fan, I had this idea for doing a one take video like ‘Yellow’ but make it our own.”
“We Were Kings” is available today, ahead of the release of the band’s album, “Sweet Dreams Till Sunbeams,” set for July 25.
