This coming weekend sees the unofficial kick off of this year’s concert festival season across Canada. The fluctuating dollar has taken it’s toll on many Canadian promoters from attracting major U.S and International names although the big festivals like Ottawa’s Blues Festival, the Quebec International Festival, Osheaga (which scored Radiohead’s only Canadian appearance this year) and the Pemberton Music Festival near Whistler still attracted key performers.
Country Music Festivals like Boots And Hearts, Cavendish, Dauphin and Havelock are as popular as ever but Canada did lose, if only temporarily, some key festivals such as the Toronto-based Riot Fest, the Saanich Festival in B.C, Fred Rock in Fredericton and a bunch of Ontario festivals like Mattawa Voyageur Days, Sabfest and the Wolfe Island Festival.
