Calgary-based singer/songwriter and balladeer Tareya will release her new single, “Summer Wheels” on June 2 (via iTunes and Spotify). The song marks the solo debut for the co-founder of Autumn Hill, the JUNO and CCMA nominated duo whose hits include “Blame,” “Fire” and “Anything At All.” With “Summer Wheels,” Tareya establishes her own sound and identity, one that blurs the lines between country, pop and R&B.
The dashboard drumming cruise tune is a celebration of Tareya’s romance-filled introduction to southern beaches and her love for a man who digs classic cars. “Summer Wheels” is also the first taste of Tareya’s full-length debut solo album currently in the works. It will feature a collection of original songs that reflect the power of human emotions, the richness of the soul and the confounding rewards that come from a passion-driven life. In many ways, Tareya says her writing pays tribute to artists such as Sarah McLachlan, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Jann Arden and Chantal Kreviazuk who provided the soundtrack to her childhood and teenage years.
“While cruising down the coast in Florida this January, I fell in love with the ocean. I was full of inspiration to write a beach vibe song so I took a detour through Nashville on my way home to Toronto to do some writing,” says Tareya. “Patricia Conroy texted me an idea for a song and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. I got together with Patrica and Danick Dupelle (Emerson Drive) and the vibe in the writing session was very laid back. ‘Summer Wheels’ is a quirky, fun cruising song and I knew Jeff Dalziel was the perfect producer for the track. He loved the demo; as soon a I sent it to him he started working it up. Everything about this song came effortlessly, even the photo shoot with Phil Crozier and finding the perfect iconic car for the single art — a baby blue 50’s Chevy Convertible. It became obvious very quickly that this song was going to be the lead summer single.”
Tareya’s musical journey got underway at an early age when she began writing original music on the piano. She later began posting videos of herself singing on YouTube, one of which caught the attention of a music industry executive, which soon sparked the formation of Autumn Hill in 2010.
After a highly successful five-year run with Autumn Hill that produced two albums, four Top 20 Canadian Country singles and over 100 high-profile live appearances at Big Valley Jamboree, Boots & Hearts Music Festival, Cavendish Beach Music Festival and other major events, Tareya now has fulfilled her dream to become a solo artist.
“Summer Wheels” is the perfect addition to any beach playlist, while displaying the full talents of one of Canada’s brightest new singing stars.
