Today BC-based, rising indie-pop artist Michaela Slinger debuts the video for ‘’Make You Sad’’. For the video, Slinger worked with director Miranda MacDougall, production company Eastcherry Media Inc and producer Ben Chick. ‘‘Make You Sad’’ was written by Slinger, Polaris Prize listed and JUNO-nominated Louise Burns and with JUNO award-winning Kevvy and is available on all streaming services via 604 Records.
The video was shot in Penticton and Osoyoos, more precisely the White Lake Grasslands protected area. You might recognize the Plaza Motel in Penticton or even an Airbnb in Penticton! The video follows a mother who is coming to terms with her station in life and who is reflecting on her relationship with her grown daughter. She has packed some mementos from years gone by and checks into a motel, where she plans to stay for some time until she finds the courage to go see their family home for the last time.

‘’I play a supporting role throughout the video that reminds the protagonist of her younger self, and of the more general obsession we have with youth in our popular culture. The video builds to a breaking point in the final chorus, which calls my character’s entire existence into question and finds the protagonist owning her story and making peace with her past,” said Slinger.
Michaela independently released her debut single and music video, “Flux” (produced by Nygel Asselin, Half Moon Run), in July 2019 to streaming success and commercial radio play. Between November 2019 and January 2020, her captivating live show—an immersive blend of gripping song delivery, hilarious storytelling, and comforting candidness—took her from performing in small Vancouver venues to bigger size venues like the Biltmore Cabaret, the Imperial, and the Vogue.
Now with over half a million career streams, Michaela signed with 604Records (Carly Rae Jepsen, Coleman Hell, Marianas Trench) in February of 2020.
