Wintersleep Gets Into The Touring `Spirit’

TORONTO – After the massive success of Wintersleep’s first single “AMERIKA, the band launch their new single “SPIRIT” at commercial radio in Canada. “AMERIKA”, the anthemic first single from The Great Detachment (Dine Alone Records), was wholly embraced at radio, occupying the #1 slot at BDS overall commercial Rock radio for 10 weeks and #1 at commercial Alternative radio for 8 weeks (a feat not seen in Canada since Sam Roberts Bands’ single “We’re all in this together” hit #1 for 6 weeks in early 2014.) It has seen over 800K streams on Spotify and made social commentary with a captivating apocalyptic mini-film directed by Scott Cudmore featuring clips from speeches made by current US Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump. Watch it here.

Known for their poignant and timely lyrics, Wintersleep’s new single “Spirit” states that we’re “caught in the spirit of our time” and asks “are you gonna be alright?” They filmed the song live for a CBC Television’s Backstage Pass to celebrate the launch of their record. Watch it here:

They also supported Blonde Redhead on a sold out US west coast tour. On August 26 in Toronto they perform a special Blue Jays pregame show outside the ballpark for the Friday Fan Festival presented by BACARDI.The FridayFan Festivals are a licensed event open to all fans with tickets to the game that evening. Starting at 4:30 p.m. and concluding at game time, ticket holders will be able to enjoy the Friday Fan Festivals with access to the 100 Level concourse. This outdoor festival will feature live music as well as interactive games and activities.

Wintersleep perform more dates in Canada and embark on a european tour this fall.Their core band membership recently changed this summer, with longtime bassist Mike Bigelow leaving the band on good terms, making way for newcomer Scott Remila (Raising the Fawn/City and Colour) to join the touring line-up.

About The Great Detachment
The Great Detachment marks a return to the organic approach Wintersleep’s earlier works that simultaneously sees them reaching new pinnacles of songwriting and production. The album was recorded at Halifax’s Sonic Temple (the birthplace of Welcome To The Night Sky and its preceding 2003 self-titled and 2005 untitled efforts) with producer Tony Doogan (Belle & Sebastian, Mogwai). The collection delivers a welcome dose of the atmospheric, entrancing alt-rock for which the band has become known, with beautifully orchestrated arrangements anchored by haunting, almost hypnotic melodies.
