New Faces – Emilia

An honours graduate of York University’s Music Program for Jazz/vocal performance, Emilia Sadowski is currently registering a strong impression with a four-song EP – Flying Colors that has already chalked up significant airplay on CBC Radio. Think of Norah Jones’ breathy vocal style combined with Nelly Furtado’s lyrical presence and you have an idea of what this Toronto native is all about. Her four-song EP represents only a teaser of this young lady’s amazing potential.

The Record – FLYING COLORS

Produced by George Rondino at Toronto’s Number 9 Studios, Flying Colors features four tracks which spotlight Emilia’s distinctive vocal style. ‘Closer All The Time’, a catchy jazz/reggae flavoured mid-tempo track with a distinctive lyrical hook is already chalking up strong national radio exposure via the CBC Radio Network but there’s much more to this young lady’s repertoire. ’Homeless And Hungry’ provides a sad documentation on the plight of homeless people, “I’ll Be Safe” registers with a soaring lyrical performance while `I Am Free’ is a peppy, mid-tempo track boasting a strong lyrical hook. Powered by Joel Lightman’s musical direction and understated piano arrangements which underscore all four tracks, Emilia is definitely a talent on the rise, she has a strong vocal presence plus songwriting savvy that can only get stronger. Her debut album should be a stunner.
