At a press conference held in Vancouver, British Columbia today, Neil Young announced that PonoMusic, the High-Resolution music company will open for business in Canada in early December. Canadian music fans will be able to download Hi-Res music files that can be played on the industry lauded PonoPlayer. At the same time, Young announced that the PonoPlayer is now available for sale at London Drugs’ 78 Western Canadian locations as well as through and Bay Bloor Radio in Toronto. The announcement comes on the heels of Stereophile Magazine declaring the PonoPlayer as the 2015 Digital Product of the Year. In addition, Rocky Mountain International HiFi Press Awards, the Oscars of the audio industry, awarded Best Mobile Audio Player to Pono.

Pono (1)PonoMusic is the world’s only Hi-Res music ecosystem with a Hi-Res music store and portable Hi-Res player. PonoMusic is the fastest growing High-Resolution music store since its introduction in January of this year, with over 2.5 million tracks of high-quality music ranging from CD quality to 192/24bit, the highest resolution offered by labels.

In response to the eroding quality of increasingly compressed music files, Neil Young founded PonoMusic with a mission to restore and save music quality so that everyone will have the opportunity to hear and feel what the artist created.

The PonoPromise:

With interest in High-Resolution music growing, an increasing amount of music is being released by record labels at higher resolutions. Many music lovers find themselves wondering if they should buy their favorite music now at this new higher quality or will there be more future improvements in digital sound. They may have already purchased in several formats, from vinyl to CD and MP3, To alleviate that concern, Pono has introduced The PonoPromise. Any album purchased through that subsequently becomes available in a Higher Resolution will be available to that Pono customer at no additional cost. At Pono, you purchase the music and if the technology improves, the upgrade is free.

PonoMusic asks its community of customers to vote on which albums they’d like to see in Higher Resolution, then Pono’s “Most Requested Upgrades Chart” is provided to the labels, who make the final decision. For the first time, Pono and the Pono community have created a direct link between music lovers and the labels who provide their music.
