Everybody’s ‘Jamaican for the weekend’ – Loverboy

It’s a long way from Calgary to the beaches of the Caribbean, but that’s the trip being made by legendary multi-platinum rockers Loverboy, when the band hosts a very special “Jamaican for the Weekend” event. Fans of the group will be “lovin’ every minute of it,” when Loverboy—lead singer Mike Reno, guitarist Paul Dean, keyboardist Doug Johnson, drummer Matt Frenette and bassist Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve, partner with Rock the Caribbean for an exclusive, four-day excursion to take place between May 9-13, 2014 at the Hilton Rose Hall Resort on the outskirts of Montego Bay, Jamaica.

For more than 30 years, Loverboy has been “Working for the Weekend,” delighting audiences around the world since forming in back in 1979 when vocalist Mike Reno was introduced to local guitar hot shot Paul Dean, both veterans of several bands on the local Calgary scene, at that city’s Refinery Night Club.

Not just Canada’s greatest rock export, Loverboy made its mark south of the border, with four multi-platinum albums including, the four-million-selling Get Lucky, and a trio of double-platinum releases in their self-titled 1980 debut, 1983’s Keep It Up and 1985’s Lovin’ Every Minute of It. Their string of hits includes, in addition to the arena-rock anthem “Working for the Weekend,” such staples as “Lovin’ Every Minute of It,” “This Could Be the Night,” “Hot Girls in Love,” “Heaven In Your Eyes,” “Turn Me Loose,” “When It’s Over,” “Heaven In Your Eyes” and “Queen of the Broken Hearts.”

For this first-ever “Jamaican for the Weekend” event, fans will enjoy the all-inclusive amenities of a world-class luxury resort, which includes free admission to Sugar Mill Falls, the largest water park in Jamaica, and a beautiful main pool. At night, they will “Get Lucky” by getting a chance to catch Loverboy on a stage built steps from the beach for one of three special concerts the band will perform exclusively for participants, with a guest total capped at 600.

“This is an incredible opportunity for our fans to get up close and personal with the band in a stunning, resort environment, where we can all let our hair down and have fun,” said Reno about the event. “You could say, it’s ‘Almost Paradise.’ And I get to work on my golf game, too.”

Fans will get a chance to play a round or two with avid golfer Reno, while other activities that the Canadian rock legends will participate in will be announced closer to the event.

The weekend will kick off with a 90-minute welcome cocktail reception, followed by a special “unplugged,” acoustic Loverboy performance, one of three concerts by the group during the four-day event. There will also be plenty of autograph sessions and hanging out, where fans can socialize with the band, concluding with a farewell buffet.

The legendary rockers recently headlined a Sept. 2 show at the PNE Arena in Vancouver, BC, as well as performing concerts with Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Ratt and Creedence Clearwater Revisited on the heels of their critically acclaimed tour last year with Journey and Pat Benatar + Neil Giraldo.
