Canadian superstar to close out performing career with new album, sold-out arena show
and self-penned memoires.
It seemed that Canadian superstar Corey Hart had come out of nowhere. In 1983, no one knew his name. In 1984 no one could escape it. His self-penned hit “Sunglasses At Night” was a monster smash at Top 40 radio and the accompanying video was played endlessly on MTV and MuchMusic with Corey Hart posters adorning bedroom walls and school locker doors around the world. He became a superstar on his own terms and now, thirty years later, he will end his performing career on his own terms with a sold-out arena show at the Bell Centre in his hometown of Montreal on his birthday, May 31. As a parting gift to his loyal fans, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 will see the release of one last Corey Hart album, Ten Thousand Horses – his first album in 16 years. The album’s title track features a duet with acclaimed songstress Jane Siberry while the French version, “Dix Mille Chevaux,” pairs Hart with his wife, Quebec singer Julie Masse.
Corey followed the release of “Sunglasses at Night” with a string of hits including “Never Surrender,” “Everything In My Heart,” “Boy In The Box” and “I Am By Your Side” – eventually amassing 9 consecutive US Billboard To 40 hits. Over his career he has released nine studio albums, selling over 16 million records worldwide. He also scored an impressive 30 top 40 Hits in his native Canada including 11 Top 10’s during his career while his songs have been covered over 1000 times.
¨A true career for me has always been defined by a body of work not possibly accomplished over one or two seasons,” says Corey. “Much like a river´s flow, it never stays the same because it’s never still – always shaping on the move, widening or deepening, coursing its way through land, ploughing a valley of new creations.”
On May 31, 2014, Corey will perform one last concert at Montreal’s Bell Centre. The sold-out arena show is being billed as One Night, Three Decades of Music and Corey promises a concert for the ages.
“Three decades down the road, I have the opportunity to return for one last encore with a completed repertoire of my career´s work, performing for my fans the show they have always deserved. I hope to give Mr. Springsteen an honourable tip of the hat when it comes to ´Marathon Sets´ because I´ve got thirty five songs slated & still counting. It will be my last shot so I´m leaving everything I got on stage that night.”
As a dénouement to the evening of May 31st, Corey will release his autobiography, Chasing The Sun. The book will chronicle his journey from a shy, fragile youth to an international superstar commanding huge audiences around the world to his romance and marriage to Quebec singer Julie Masse and their decision to pull back on their own careers to raise their four children.
Though his performing career will have ended, Cory Hart’s relationship with the music industry will continue. He will continue to develop artists for his own label, Siena Records partnered with Warner Music Canada. As a perfect bridge from one career to the next, Corey Hart will introduce Siena’s latest signing, Jonathan Roy, to the public at his farewell concert on May 31.
