JUNO Award-winning rockers MONOWHALES are taking things to a new level with their latest offering “StuckintheMiddle,” out now. Anger, frustration, and deep personal struggle take center stage as lead singer Sally Shaar passionately howls “I’m stuck in the middle, I’m chained like an animal,” while the band leans heavily into their hard rock background, bringing an enormous sound complete with stadium-sized drums, half-time breakdowns, and a searing guitar solo.
“StuckintheMiddle” arrives with a powerful video which features Shaar battling to break the chains that bind her – watch it here.
Of the new song, Shaar says “Every day is a constant struggle. I feel pushed and pulled around by my past, present and future. My upbringing and the trauma that’s seeded deep within me can be so easily triggered it becomes habitual. ‘StuckintheMiddle’ is the caged-up embodiment of this unsteady confusion and inner rage. Presumptions about my every action can be judged and manipulated by a parent, friend, stranger or even my own self-destructive brain.
At a certain point, all this pressure starts to feel like a bottle shaken up and poised to explode. When I sing this song I am screaming out my spite, my angst, my rage in hopes that I can grow self-aware enough to set myself free. Until that day comes, I have this song to console me.”
“StuckintheMiddle” is the latest in a string of hits from MONOWHALES’ highly anticipated new album Tunnel Vision, releasing in Fall of 2022. Previously released tracks from the Dave Schiffman (Vampire Weekend, Pup) produced album include the dreamy summertime vibes of “New Threads” along with their smash hit “CTRL^^^” which spent six weeks in the Top 10 at Canadian radio.
Not ones to rest on their laurels, MONOWHALES are quickly returning to the road after an incredible spring spent touring Canada with Mother Mother. The band will be performing at a number of summer festivals including stops at Festival d’ete (Quebec), Hillside Festival (Guelph), Osheaga (Montreal) and Rock the Hub (Truro). They have also announced a slate of headlining tour dates for Fall of 2022, which will bring the band right across Western Canada. For a full list of dates visit MONOWHALES.COM.
Exploding onto the scene in 2017, Toronto-based MONOWHALES have put a new lease on the alt-rock genre and established themselves as one of the most exciting new bands in Canada. Their 2019 breakout single “RWLYD (Really Wanna Let You Down)” made history as MONOWHALES became the only independent, self-managed band to chart at #2 on the Mediabase Canada Alternative Rock Chart.
Most recently the band took home the 2022 JUNO Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year. With multiple Top 10 singles, millions of streams, and countless shows played across Canada (including support slots for Mother Mother, K.Flay, DFA 1979, Sloan, and Marianas Trench), MONOWHALES have earned a special place in the hearts and minds of fans across the country.
