This week’s Space Station 5 comes to us from Sean Kelly.
For my 6 months on the International Space Station I would make sure I had Hanoi Rocks’ Two Steps From The Move to get the journey started. Can’t think of a better way to blast off into the wild blue yonder than with their version of CCR’s “Up Around The Bend” serving as the soundtrack!
Once I’m ensconced in the glorious weightlessness of outer space, I’d want to revisit a few records that recall the levity of my youth…Bryan Adam’s Reckless, and Van Halen’s 5150. These are my go to albums when I want to experience the lightness of being that went along with summer nights and my radio on Lake Temiscaming, mastering the chords on my first real six string…would love to gaze upon that lake from the Station while listening to the guitar mastery of Keith Scott and the king himself, Eddie Van Halen.
6 months is a long time to live with only 5 records, so I’m going to need one that constantly surprises with new and wonderful musical inventions upon each listen…that record for me is Spilt Milk by Jellyfish, a master class in power pop, glam rock, and stunning orchestration.
Finally, since state of the art technology will be the name of the game (and will be keeping my rock n roll ass alive up there!), I will bring the album I consider to be the high water mark for hard rock production, Def Leppard’s Hysteria….Mutt Lange’s masterful skills will remind me of the beauty of human achievement (oh yeah, guess the fact that I’m living in the INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION might do that too!!), and the 70’s glam rock influenced guitar and vocal orchestrations of the mighty Lep will remind me how good that first pint will taste in the pub when I get home!!
