Sing me the Songs (Celebrating The Works Of Kate McGarrigle) – All Star Ensemble

(Warner Music Canada/Nonesuch Records) This two-cd live set culled from concerts in London, Toronto and New York has been recorded in memory of Kate McGarrigle who succumbed to cancer in 2010. Organized and performed by surviving sister Anna McGarrigle and offspring Rufus and Martha Wainwright, this 38-song set also features an all-star cast that includes Norah Jones, Emmy-Lou Harris, Linda and Richard Thompson with even comedian Jimmy Fallon getting into the act with his rendition of `The Swimming Song’. All McGarrigle’s great songs are featured here; `Heart Like A Wheel’, `Kiss And Say Goodbye’, `I Am A Diamond’ , `Talk to Me Of Mendocino’ `Go Leave’ and Kate even gets into the act herself with the inclusion of one of her final home demo offerings; `I Just Want To Make It Last’.

A fitting tribute to a precious Canadian performer which has been documented with the filming of the New York show for a future airing titled “Sing Me The Songs That Say I Love You”. Some poignant performances by an all-star cast which pay homage to a truly remarkable performer.
