Philip Sayce – Space Station 5…er 6

texas-floodTexas Flood, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble:

Every time I listen to this release it fills me with excitement, love of music, and also sends me to practice room to keep digging deeper and to keep pushing forward. Absolute perfection and glorious performances from Stevie, one of the most gifted and natural artists to ever walk this earth. This still resonates with me today as profoundly as it did when I heard it for the first time. Hugely inspirational, I love this release and Stevie’s music. My favorite record of all time.

see-the-lightSee The Light, The Jeff Healey Band:

This record also sends me back to practice room with a sense of inspiration and excitement. Jeff’s performances on this collection of recordings are mind blowing! On the top shelf of blues rock recordings, ever…Alongside Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan. These are ridiculous performances here. To have witnessed Jeff playing live on many occasions, he was always improvising and it was always somehow better than the last time. Magical… I love these performances, and Jeff.

hendrixAre You Experienced, The Jimi Hendrix Experience:

Without peer, Jimi Hendrix is the all time heavyweight champion. This record, his first commercial release with the Jimi Hendrix Experience, is filled with masterpieces across the board. Every time I hear this record, it wipes the slate clean and reminds me of the infinite possibilities in music. I am grateful that this music from Jimi Hendrix is in the world to light the way.

beatlesThe Beatles

Really, anything and everything by the Beatles. Their music sounds fresher and more alive to me now than the “hot new whatever” that’s being released this week. Absolute mastery, the high watermark.

big-sugar500 LBS, Big Sugar

I’ve listened to this record more than 1000 times. I love the sounds, the energy, songs, production and the performances. This is one of my all-time favorite records. Gordie Johnson is a serious bad ass, and this is some of his finest work.

freddieLive At The Sugarbowl, Freddie King:

This performance will literally blow your wig right off your head. BLUES POWER, he freaking lights up this performance as bright as the sun. Super energy, ridiculous playing and singing, absolutely next level. Check it out…The way you experience music will never be the same… This is massive and hugely inspiring to me, and just about anyone who feels music on the inside.
