MISS SAPPHIRE

Learn To Fly

(Starlight Music)

Introducing Miss Sapphire, a Vancouver native blues/jazz singer also well known in Asia and Europe where she has established a reputation in both the music and film industry. Equally adept at composing, producing and performing, Miss Sapphire has just delivered the first segment of an ambitious four-part recording titled Learn To Fly which is a throwback to the vintage years of blues/jazz singers like Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald. Although all seven tracks on this recording were composed and produced by Miss Sapphire, there’s a definite authenticity about the big band sound she and her 10-piece orchestra has created. There’s the jazzy styling of “Masquerade”, the salsa rhythm of “Catch Me If You Can”, the be-bop tempo of “Always Always” and torch-like ballads of “Would You Like” and “You Don’t Know (What You Do To Me). In a way she is like Michael Buble in that’s she’s a bit of anomaly in today’s music scene, yet as an artist, Miss Sapphire is a definite talent who lends a sense of originality to classic styling’s that a throwback to a golden era of big-band music. This deva is definitely worth checking out and could be in store for a plethora of Juno nominations. Download: “Catch Me If You Can”, “But Baby You Don’t Fool Me”.
