JUNO AWARD-WINNING BAND MARIANAS TRENCH CELEBRATES WITH STUDENTS, PERFORMING AT ABBOTSFORD SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL
ABBOTSFORD, BC – Canada’s leading music education charity, MusiCounts, announced that $55,000 worth of instruments and equipment is being distributed to six schools in BC through theMusiCounts Band Aid Program. The announcement was made yesterday at a celebration sponsored by Bell Media and featured a special performance by JUNO Award-winning band Marianas Trench at Abbotsford Senior Secondary School, one of six schools that is benefitting from the program’s support.

“This is one of the most rewarding things we get to do at MusiCounts, putting instruments into the hands of students,” said Allan Reid, President & CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards & MusiCounts. “Thanks to Bell Media and Marianas Trench for helping us celebrate $55,000 worth of instruments going into British Columbia schools this year.”

“Bell Media is proud of our longstanding support of MusiCounts through such vital initiatives as the Band Aid Program,” said David Corey, Vice-President, Radio Programming, Bell Media. “We firmly believe that putting the right tools in the hands of Canadian youth will inspire them to contribute to our vibrant and growing music scene. Simply put, our investment in MusiCounts and the Band Aid Program not only makes sense for our industry, but it’s the right thing to do.”
Vancouver-based Marianas Trench, whose single “One Love” off their latest album, Astoria, recently went Gold in Canada, spoke to the students about their experiences in high school band class, and how music has helped them through tough times and improved their lives. The band helped unveil $10,000 worth of instruments and equipment for the school, and performed their hits “One Love,” “This Means War” and “Celebrity Status” and a cover of “Good Vibrations” to raucous applause from the students.

“When I was in high school, students asked me what I wanted to be when I was older. I said a musician, and they laughed at me,” said Josh Ramsay, lead singer of Marianas Trench. “That is why I am so thrilled to come back to school with MusiCounts to inspire fellow band students, and to demonstrate the importance of music programs for young people.”
Nira Arora, co-host of “Jonny, Holly & Nira” on 94.5 Virgin Radio Vancouver, hosted the event. The school’s music teacher, Nancy Hasiuk, spoke about the importance of the Band Aid Program’s support and introduced a routine by the Abbotsford Senior Secondary School Drumline.
