INTIMATE ACOUSTIC CONCERT BENEFITS STRATFORD HOUSE OF BLESSING
#PURPOSEINTO AMASSED OVER ONE BILLION SOCIAL MEDIA IMPRESSIONS ACROSS THE GLOBE
08 DECEMBER 2015 (Toronto, ON) – Last night, global superstar Justin Bieber came home to Canada with “An Evening With Justin Bieber”, an intimate acoustic performance in front of 1,500 fans at The Danforth Music Hall in Toronto. The small venue provided a unique and rare opportunity for fans to watch Justin, along with his long-time friend and musical director / musician, Dan Kanter, perform a 90-minute set of 24 acoustic songs, including those from Justin’s new album PURPOSE, released November 13, 2015 via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Justin made the surprise announcement of the show to his 71 million Twitter followers on Tuesday of last week. In the same announcement, it was revealed that 100 percent of the proceeds generated from the show would be donated to Stratford House of Blessing, a non-profit organization very near and dear to Justin’s heart, based in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario.
Following the announcement of the show, Justin revealed on Saturday that the concert would be streamed live worldwide on his website at eveningwithjb.justinbiebermusic.com, for all of the fans in Canada and around the world that could not make it to the show. Since the concert announcement was made, #PurposeInTO, the hashtag used for the event, has generated over one billion impressions.
Fans will have the opportunity to take home a piece of the show with the purchase of a bundle that includes a section of the backdrop that appeared on stage behind Justin during the performance. The backdrop was custom-designed and painted by local Toronto artist, Jimmy Chiale. The limited-edition bundles will be available exclusively in the store on justinbiebermusic.com.
Also in celebration of PURPOSE, for three days starting on album release day Toronto fans got a chance to participate in #PurposePopupTO, Canada’s first official Justin Bieber pop-up shop. Exclusive music packages, merchandise, hourly giveaways and exciting surprises were available to fans at 277 Queen Street West in Toronto. The shop also featured an exclusive installation by Chiale.
PURPOSE, propelled by back-to-back smash hit singles “What Do You Mean?” and “Sorry”, debuted at #1 in both Canada and the US upon its release and is now 2X platinum in Canada. It is Justin’s sixth album to debut at #1, and holds the highest one-week sales tally of his career with 649,000 US copies sold in its first week. The album’s first three singles – “Where Are Ü Now”, “What Do You Mean?” and“Sorry” are 2X platinum in Canada.
The album shattered the global Spotify record for most album streams in one week, with over 200 million plays. Around the world, PURPOSE hit #1 on iTunes in over 100 countries, as “What Do You Mean?”, “Love Yourself” and “Sorry” held strong inside the Canadian and US iTunes Top 10. Bieber stormed the UK singles charts with three singles in the top five, a feat no other artist has managed since John Lennon, posthumously, in 1981. “Sorry”, “Love Yourself” and “What Do You Mean?” took first, third and fifth place.
The new album’s success is underscored by the announcement of the North American leg of Justin’s “PURPOSE World Tour 2016”, opening March 9 at Key Arena in Seattle. The 50+ city, 58-date tour, promoted by AEG Live, will bring Bieber’s dynamic live show to eastern and western Canada, as well as US cities including Denver, Las Vegas, Dallas, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Chicago, Boston and Miami. There will be two-night runs at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Staples Center in Los Angeles and Chicago’s Allstate Arena. The North American leg of the Purpose World Tour will conclude on July 18, 2016, at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden.
